DIEGESIS : THE UNCONVENTIONAL MAGAZINE OF FILM AND TELEVISION CRITICISM

What are your favourite films, tv shows, genres or filmmakers?
Firstly, my guilty pleasure has to be DIRTY DANCING. It is a classic and the film I could watch over and over again (and have done). TV shows? So far this year I have loved THE HANDMAIDS TALE, THE SINNER, STRANGER THINGS, and 13 REASONS WHY. I'm also interested in foreign language films, particularly cinema from the Middle East, documentaries and am partial to a bit of Reality TV.
What does having your writing published in DIEGESIS mean to you?
This year, having my article "From Benefits Street to Downing Street" published in print and then going on to win the Diegesis Award at the Solent Film Awards was truly the cherry on the top of my undergraduate cake. Having a creative outlet for my writing alongside hardcore essay writing is great for me and I'm really proud to work on such an exciting and original project alongside other talented writers and editors.
What is your writing process?
I'd say the process for my creative writing i.e. film and TV criticism or screenwriting, is different to the way I approach academic work. When writing articles I feel free to experiment with my creative voice and "just write" in the way my brain is thinking about the topic. I don't linger over every word and enjoy focusing on making the piece an enjoyable and easy read.
