COMPETITION

PINK STRING AND SEALING WAX

Robert Hamer / UK / 1945

Picture
POSTED 22 APRIL 2016
OUR latest competition is to win a copy of Robert Hamer's British Ealing crime drama PINK STRING AND SEALING WAX, courtesy of StudioCanal. It's now available in fully restored 2k for the first time on Blu-Ray and DVD.

SYNOPSIS / In 1890s Brighton the young son of a puritanical chemist becomes infatuated with a pub landlady and gets caught up in a murder plot to kill her abusive husband.

CASTING / PINK STRING AND SEALING WAX was based on a play by Robert Pertwee - the father of John "Doctor Who" Pertwee! It stars Googie Withers (Alfred Hitchcock's THE LADY VANISHES, Robert Hamer's IT ALWAYS RAINS ON SUNDAY, Jules Dassin's NIGHT AND THE CITY), Gordon Jackson (THE PROFESSIONALS, UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS) and Mervyn Johns (Aberto Cavalcanti's WENT THE DAY WELL and DEAD OF NIGHT, A CHRISTMAS CAROL with Alastair Sim).

DVD/Blu-Ray Special Features
• Interview with Joanna McCallum (Googie Withers’s daughter)
• Interview with Melanie Williams (focusing on Women at Ealing)
• Behind the Scenes stills gallery
• Restoration Comparison

The Digital Film restoration was funded by StudioCanal in collaboration with the BFI’s Unlocking Film Heritage programme (awarding funds from the National Lottery).

COMPETITION DETAILS / We've got two copies up for grabs - either Blu-Ray or DVD. To enter, all you need to do is (1) follow us on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram (or all three for more chances to win!) and (2) share the competition post. That's it! The competition is open to UK entrants until 9am GMT Tuesday 26 April 2016. If yours is one of the winning entries, we'll contact you for your postage address and preference for Blu-Ray or DVD. StudioCanal will then send you the film direct.
